They were invented in France in about 1850, and the use of a coffee makers press can turn your morning coffee into a whole new tasting experience.
Many are stainless steel coffee presses which many claim have better taste than presses made out of other materials and they work by depressing a plunger that strains coffee grounds from the coffee. You can get coffee presses in many different styles and sizes including a 3 cup coffee press and an 8 cup coffee press. The first thing you need to know is that your coffee grounds should be fairly large and even, so keep this is mind if you are grinding the coffee grounds yourself. Next, prepare your water. You should boil your water, and then let it cool, because if your water is too hot you will lose some of the taste.
Pour the hot water over the coffee grounds and make sure to get all of them wet, adding coffee grounds and water to how much coffee you want to make. Also, you’ll want to stir your grounds a bit to make sure that they are distributed evenly and that you get the best cup of coffee possible. When you are done stirring put the top on the coffee press but don’t press the plunger down yet. You do this to make sure that you retain the heat while the coffee is steeping, or extracting the flavor.. If you are using a 3 cup coffee press then give it about two to two and a half minutes to steep. If you are using an 8 cup coffee press then let it steep for about four minutes.
Lastly, press the plunger slowly keeping it even all the way down. This will allow the coffee to move past the plunger and for the coffee grounds to move downward to the bottom. If you move too fast then you’ll get coffee grounds in your coffee.
